Saina Nehwal beat South Korea’s Youn Joo Bae to reach the finals of the 2011 Swiss Open. Nehwal prevailed 21-19, 13-21, 21-14 in a hard fought 58 minute encounter. Joo had never beaten Saina in competitive badminton fixtures since playing together in the junior circuits, and Saturday was no different. Nehwal was trailing 6-14 in the first game, but stormed back to take the game 21-19.
Saina will play another Korean in the form of Sung Ji Hyun in the final. Sung Ji Hyun beat Germany’s Juliane Schenk in the other semifinals of the tournament.
Saina Nehwal has claimed here first international title of the year by beating Sung Ji Hyun in the finals of the 2011 Swiss Open Grand Prix.
Nehwal won the tie 21-13, 21-14 to claim her second successive win over Hyun, whom she had beaten in the Indonesian Super Serries Tournament last year.
Saina Nehwal has moved into the semifinals of the Wilson Swiss Open after beating Bulgaria’s Petya Nedelcheva in the quarter finals. The 6th seeded Bulgarian took Nehwal the distance before the latter prevailed 22-20, 21-17 in a hard fought, 38 minute encounter.
Nehwal will now clash against Bae Youn Joo for a spot in the final of the tournament.
Saina Nehwal avenged her All England defeat at the hands of Eriko Hirose by beating the Japanese star in the Round of 16 of the Swiss Open Grand Prix. Nehwal prevailed 21-15, 17-21, 21-11 to book her place in the quarterfinals of the Swiss Open.
Nehwal was trailing 5-9 in the first game, but recovered to win it 21-15. The reverse occurred in the second, when Hirose recovered from a 3-6 deficit to take it 21-17.
Saina will play Petla Nedelcheva of Bulgaria in the last eight.
